o “TO DO”– Review your facility’s policies and practices regarding abuse, neglect, exploitation and misappropriation.
• Dementia management, reducing antipsychotic medications and abuse prevention
o Find the “Hand-in Training” produced by CMS. Watch it and be prepared to teach it to facility staff. You can find it at: https://surveyortraining.cms.hhs.gov/pubs/HandinHand.aspx
• Effective Communication
o Helpful training for the Ombudsman about communicating with families:
• Resident rights
o Get to know the Ombudsman for the elderly in your region. Review resident rights with them.
• Rules, regulations and ethics programs
o CMS LTC Regulations.
o Watch for updated regulations effective Nov. 28, 2018. Here is a summary of the proposed regs in each phase.
• Ensure you receive safety training from your facility including policies related to:
o “TO DO” – Train on evacuations, fire safety, missing resident, active shooter, oxygen safety, etc.
• Person centered care and culture change
• Cultural sensitivity training
• Infection control
• Trauma informed care
• Substance abuse
• Death, Funeral Planning, Grief, Loss and Bereavement
• Medicare and Medicaid
• Discharge Planning
• Advanced Care Planning
• Comprehensive care planning

Cancellations are subject to a $50.00 fee if made more than seven (7) business days prior to the event. There will be no refund or credit granted for “no-shows” and cancelled registration within seven (7) business days of the event. Training dates are subject to change.
